GCPA Awards

Historically, GCPA has given awards to individuals within the state each year. Please see below for a list of awards given in the past.

Outstanding Graduate Student:

This award is presented to either a Masters or Doctoral level student currently enrolled in a graduate program in the state of Georgia related to preparation for student affairs practice. Recipients have demonstrated scholastic achievement and research in student affairs through dissertation or thesis work, journal and newsletter publications, colloquium or institute participation, and other significant research and scholarly activities in the field of student affairs.

Outstanding Student Learning Program:

Instituted in the year 2000, The Outstanding Student Learning Program recognizes innovative practices of a student affairs division, unit, or office which promotes the goals and mission of student learning and personal development.

Paul K. Jahr Award of Excellence:

The Award of Excellence is named in honor of Dr. Jahr for his outstanding contributions to the state and to the profession. This award is presented to a non-GCPA or non-ACPA member who has dedicated themselves to professional student affairs service and who has demonstrated service to the state and to the profession through teaching, counseling, administration, research, publication, and involvement in state, regional and national activities.

Roger B. Winston Outstanding New Professional Award:

The Outstanding New Professional Award is named in honor of Dr. Winston for his outstanding contributions to the state and to the profession. This award is presented to a GCPA or ACPA member who is currently employed in the student affairs profession, who has six or fewer years full-time experience in the field and who has demonstrated service in leadership, research, innovative programs, and other professional activities.

Theodore K. Miller Outstanding Professional Service Award:

This award, appropriately named for Dr. Miller, is presented to a GCPA member or professional in the state who has more than six years of professional student affairs service and who also has demonstrated service to GCPA, ACPA, and to the profession of Student Affairs through teaching, counseling, administration, research, publication, and involvement in state, regional and national activities.
